Today is "International Beer Day" - the best day of the year!
What Is International Beer Day?
International Beer Day is a celebration of beer - hooray! It started in in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California by Jesse Avshalomov and is always held on the first Friday of August.
Since it first began, International Beer Day has grown from a small event in the western United States into a worldwide celebration spanning 207 cities, 80 countries and 6 continents.
Why Celebrate International Beer Day?
International Beer Day has three purposes:
- To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.
- To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.
- To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day
What Should I do on International Beer Day?
You should celebrate by 'giving the gift of beer', either by buying someone a pint, or getting them a beer gift from your favourite dog-themed beer website (ahem.)
You should thank any brewers or bar tenders (or dog-themed beer websites) that you happen upon that day.
You should get out of your beer comfort zone, and try a different beer that you haven't had before, ideally from another country or culture. We'd recommend buying it from your favourite dog-themed... you get the picture.
