In 1887 the family business was founded by Hans and Eberhardt Maisel. They built a modern brewery on the outskirts of Bayreuth and thus laid the foundation for the still very successful company. In the midst of the global economic crisis of the 1920s, Fritz and Andreas, the sons of the founders' brothers, took over the management of the brewery business. It was Fritz Maisel, however, who ultimately led the company from 1936 on its own responsibility. Maisel remains in family hands to this day, although the original brewery is now a beer-making museum. The Maisel Brewery most notible beer is their Maisel’s Weisse wheat beer.
